The Nevada Division of Emergency Provides Storm Preparation Advice

RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – More storms are on their way, so we’re not quite out of the woods yet. People are urged to be ready right now.

Before the storm arrives, the Nevada Division of Emergency Management offers some crucial advice.

Make careful to clear snow and other obstructions from the top of propane tanks, gauges, connections, and gas meters to prevent gas leaks. Sandbags should be purchased in order to combat flooding, which is a serious threat.

Make sure you have a supply of blankets and to check your supply of batteries and flashlights.

The emergency division advises against using candles as a source of illumination if your home loses electricity. This reduces the possibility that emergency personnel may also need to handle potential water emergencies in addition to responding to a fire.

Deputy Administrator Jon Bakkedahl outlined what individuals should have to be prepared,

“We’re going to have a lot of rain, so to those in a low-lying area, get your sandbags now don’t try to be the last one there trying to get in and get something that might not be available. Individuals need to do some local preparedness. During these next few months make sure homes have emergency kits, and you, your kids, and your animals are prepared,” Bakkedahl said.

According to the Nevada Division of Emergency Management, they have been making extensive preparations for weather situations like these.

They advise the neighborhood to regularly check their social media accounts for updates and significant information.
