Mid-Block Impact Along North Buffalo Drive
According to preliminary field findings compiled by fatal collision reconstruction detectives, the 43-year-old man was walking his dog and attempting to cross North Buffalo Drive outside of a marked pedestrian crosswalk.
At the same time, a Hyundai sedan was traveling along North Buffalo Drive.
The front of the vehicle struck both the man and the dog as they navigated across traffic lanes, projecting both victims several feet onto the asphalt roadway.
The female driver behind the wheel of the Hyundai brought the vehicle to an immediate stop, called 911 for emergency medical services, and remained at the scene.
Responding patrol officers administered standard field sobriety tests, determining that the motorist displayed zero physical or chemical signs of drug or alcohol impairment.
Detectives cordoned off the roadway with barricades and reflective cones, deploying laser measuring devices to map braking telemetry, sight-distance angles, and vehicle damage patterns under dark evening conditions.
Arterial Speed and Pedestrian Vulnerability
The incident underscores persistent safety concerns across wide suburban arterials in northwest Las Vegas, where multi-lane roadways with 45 mph posted limits often feature extensive distances between signalized crosswalks.

Metro traffic commanders have urged pedestrians and pet owners to utilize illuminated intersections, carry reflective gear or flashlights during dusk and evening walks, and avoid mid-block crossings against oncoming traffic.
North Buffalo Drive was reopened to normal traffic early Monday morning following the completion of scene documentation.
The collision remains under active investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
