LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – The team from Durango High School was just named the winner of the NASA TechRise Student Challenge, and this summer, their innovation will be used in a real NASA experiment.

The kids were challenged with creating an experiment that could be evaluated on a high-altitude balloon trip as part of the TechRise STEM challenge, which is open to students in grades six through twelve.

With the assistance of engineers, the Durango High School team will spend the rest of the academic year developing their experiments in anticipation of the flying test, named “PROJECT NIGHTHAWK.”

Each of the 60 winning student teams will get $1,500 to fund their experiments, a flight box in which to construct it, support, and a designated seat on the high-altitude balloon trip. There were 60 winning teams nationwide.
