BLM Seeks Comment on Gold Exploration Expansion

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, January 25, 2023 5:46 am

RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The Bureau of Land Management is looking for feedback from the public over a plan to increase gold exploration.

The old Hog Ranch Mine site will be the location of the exploration, which will take place along County Road 34 in Washoe County, 60 miles south of Cedarville. The project would span 200 miles of public land under BLM management, with the majority of the drilling expected to occur at the old mine site.

The suggested strategy calls for constructing both permanent and temporary access roads, enhancing current ones, setting up drill pads, boring exploratory holes, putting in a water well, and establishing a staging area.

Over the course of ten years, the project will be completed in stages.

By mail to the Bureau of Land Management, Applegate Field Office, 708 West 12th St., Alturas, CA, 96101, attention JoAnne Homuth, or by email to jhomuth@blm.gov, all comments must be received by February 23.

Please make the subject line of your email “Hog Ranch Exploration Project.”

The Hog Ranch Mine was in operation from 1986 to 1995.
