NDOT Warns Drivers of Intermittent Lane and Shoulder Closures on Major Reno Highways for Guardrail Repairs

NEVADA – Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has warned drivers to prepare for intermittent lane and shoulder closures on major highways in Reno, including I-80, I-580, and U.S. 395, as crews repair roadside guardrails damaged during recent winter storms.

Last week, NDOT crews repaired segments of damaged guardrail on I-80 west of Reno. This week, from March 20 to March 24, brief lane and shoulder closures will occur on I-80, I-580, and U.S. 395 in the Reno area, as repairs are made to other areas of guardrails hit by vehicles during the winter storms. However, NDOT officials warn that weather delays could extend the work into next week.

The closures will take place at various locations for a few hours before crews move on to a different location. Drivers should be prepared for brief lane and shoulder closures and follow traffic signage. NDOT also reminds drivers to drive attentively through the work areas and reduce travel speed.

The affected areas include I-580/U.S. 395 between Galena Creek Bridge (south of Reno) and Parr Blvd, with lane closures occurring between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Other closures on I-80/U.S. 395 in central Reno will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. at Keystone Ave, Center Street, and Wells Ave.

NDOT officials state that the guardrail damage resulted from crashes during winter weather over the past months. Repairs will ultimately be made to 22 locations of damaged guardrail, equaling approximately 1,000 feet of guardrail, including Kingsbury and Geiger Grades, as weather permits.
