LAS VEGAS – Allyn McFarland, 29, was arrested on Monday evening after attacking a bus security officer with rocks and a trash can. According to a police statement released on Tuesday, McFarland was the only person on the RTC bus at the time. A security officer on the bus called the Metropolitan Police Department (Metro) just before 7 p.m. to report the attack.
When the bus pulled over near Blue Diamond Road and South Durango Drive, McFarland refused to get off and began attacking officers. A Metro K-9 was eventually deployed and bit McFarland. However, McFarland was still able to bite an officer and strike others, the statement said.
McFarland was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges including battery on a protected person, battery, mayhem, and mistreating a police animal. The statement did not specify how many officers were injured, but they were taken to University Medical Center for treatment and later released.
According to court records, McFarland had been sentenced to jail three years ago for attacking two other Metro officers. In 2020, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for battery on an officer and a year in prison for attempted battery with substantial bodily harm. McFarland had previously served time in 2015 for attempted battery with substantial bodily harm and battery by a prisoner.
At the time of his most recent arrest, McFarland was on probation for second-degree arson after setting fire to a mental health care facility on Stewart Avenue in May, according to court records.
