Las Vegas Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting Near Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting along Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive around 8:55 on Friday night.
Metro Captain Joshua Martinez said the shooting occurred in a 2100 Valley Drive residence. Officers responded to allegations of an armed male with a knife and a woman on the premises. Captain Martinez reported in the initial briefing that the officers made contact with the male and heard the woman’s heartbreaking screams inside.
Officers rushed into the house to save the woman. A rescue officer shot the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the hospital in severe condition after receiving medical attention at the scene. The woman involved has not been injured or required medical attention.
Thankfully, no officers were injured in the shooting.
The Force Investigations Team of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department conducts a thorough review of officer-involved shootings. This team will carefully evaluate body camera footage, process evidence, and interview witnesses. Metro’s Office of Internal Oversight will receive its complete report.
The department’s practice requires another briefing within 72 hours to provide body camera footage to explain the shooting’s occurrences.
The Las Vegas Police Department has recorded four officer-involved shootings in 2023. The investigation into this significant occurrence is transparent and accountable.
