Court Issues Public Warning Over Counterfeit Jury Duty Postcards Targeting Clark County Residents

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, November 6, 2026 2:27 pm

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada issued an urgent public advisory warning Southern Nevada residents of an escalating mail scam involving counterfeit jury duty summons postcards.

The administrative warning—published Friday, November 6, 2026, at 2:00 a.m. PST by the Las Vegas Sun following official alerts issued by court administrators—stems from a sophisticated fraud ring designed to harvest personal information and extract fraudulent payments.

Court Executive Officer and Clerk of the Court Timothy Andrews, alongside Chief Judge Tierra Jones, noted that fraudsters are mass-mailing forged postcards that closely mimic the official postcard format the Eighth Judicial District Court adopted to notify prospective jurors.

The deceptive mailers feature counterfeit elements, including fabricated juror identification numbers, assigned group numbers, and fraudulent QR codes.

When scanned, the bogus QR codes route recipients to deceptive phishing sites or prompt victims to dial spoofed phone numbers where callers are threatened with arrest warrants or monetary fines for “failing to appear”.

Recognizing Counterfeit Notices and Common Red Flags

Court administrators emphasized that while the Eighth Judicial District Court legitimately delivers initial jury duty summonses via postcard mailers, several operational markers distinguish legitimate court correspondence from fraud:

  • Impossible Appearance Dates: Fraudulent mailers frequently print reporting days that conflict with active court calendars, such as instructing recipients to report on a Saturday or court holiday.

  • Phony Contact Numbers: Phone numbers listed on scam postcards frequently route to automated voicemail systems or ring unanswered, unlike official court lines.

  • Malicious QR Codes: Counterfeit QR codes lead to unverified web pages demanding immediate identity inputs, credit card payments, or bank transfers.

The Eighth Judicial District Court never demands gift card payments, wire transfers, or immediate debit card fees over the phone to clear missed jury duty or recall a bench warrant.

Official Verification and Incident Reporting Channels

Court officials urge any resident who receives a suspicious postcard not to scan embedded QR codes, provide personal financial data, or call numbers listed directly on the card.
