Woman Convicted of Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in 2021, Sentenced to Six Years

NEVADA – Jennifer Dietsch, the woman responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash in May 2021, has been found guilty of Reckless Driving Resulting in Death, in a significant legal development. She has been sentenced to six years in prison and will be eligible for parole after three years.

The incident occurred on Highway 395 South near Panther Drive, where authorities identified the victim as 44-year-old James Marsh. Tragically, Marsh lost his life in a hit-and-run rollover crash.

Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) investigated the incident and reported that Jennifer Dietsch, then 20 years old, was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Beetle when the collision transpired. Preliminary findings from the NHP’s investigation revealed that Dietsch was driving northbound on Panther in the storage lane south of the southbound US-395 Panther Valley on-ramp, while Marsh was driving northbound in the left travel lane on Panther, approaching the southbound US-395 Panther Valley on-ramp.

In a reckless attempt to overtake the Ford Explorer driven by Marsh, the Volkswagen moved into the left travel lane and approached a raised concrete traffic island. Tragically, the Volkswagen struck a marker post then entered the left travel lane occupied by Marsh’s Ford. The impact caused the Ford to roll over, and sadly, Marsh was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Shockingly, after the collision, Jennifer Dietsch fled the scene of the crash.

Subsequently, she was apprehended and booked into the Washoe County Jail, facing several felony charges, including DUI causing death, duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death, failure to maintain a travel lane, failure to render aid, and duty to report a crash to a police officer.
