Father Arrested in Connection with Baby's Death

LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas man is facing murder and child abuse/neglect charges in connection with the death of his baby.

Alejandro Pantoja, 22, called 911 on Oct. 27 to report that his baby was not breathing. When police arrived at his apartment, they found the baby floating face-down in the bathtub. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pantoja told police that he had put the baby in the bathtub before falling asleep in his bed. He said that when he woke up, he found the bathtub overflowing and the baby floating in the water.

Police said that Pantoja ran to his neighbor’s apartment and called 911 from there, because he did not have a phone.

Pantoja was arrested on Wednesday and is currently in custody. He is due back in court on Tuesday.
