LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas police have arrested and charged Corey Canton, a 36-year-old convicted felon, with seven different charges in connection with an unsettling case involving the alleged luring, prostitution, and kidnapping of a female juvenile. The incident unfolded after the young girl left her family at a casino and took a walk on the Strip, according to Las Vegas police reports.
Canton was apprehended on Tuesday at his residence in east Las Vegas and subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center. The charges against him include suspicion of sexual assault, two counts of sex trafficking of a minor under 18, assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping of a minor, and owning a gun as a prohibited person, as stated by the Las Vegas Justice Court records.
On December 1st, authorities received a report from the mother of the juvenile girl, who claimed her daughter had become a victim of sex trafficking at a Strip hotel. A vice detective recorded the girl’s statement, in which she revealed that she had run away from her family’s hotel-casino and was walking along the Las Vegas Strip. It was there that she was approached by another juvenile girl who invited her to join her in making a “quick buck.”
The two girls arrived at the Days Inn motel on Koval Lane, where the second girl introduced the victim to her boyfriend, Corey Canton. According to police reports, on the night of November 28th, Canton allegedly forced the victim into having sexual intercourse with him. When she attempted to leave, Canton reportedly brandished a firearm, causing the victim to feel trapped and remain in the motel room.
Later, the two girls left the Days Inn and engaged in sex with an unidentified male at the Luxor. During this encounter, the second girl stole $1,000 from the man’s pants. Subsequently, on November 29th, Canton instructed the two girls to work as prostitutes along the Strip, charging customers between $100 and $300 for sexual acts.
At around 4 a.m. the following day, they returned to the motel room, where Canton provided them with food, alcohol, and marijuana. Although they did not engage in prostitution during their return to the Strip, the victim gave the remaining $59 she had to Canton. The report does not specify how the victim ultimately managed to escape the motel and reunite with her mother.
A subsequent search warrant executed in Canton’s motel room unveiled a 9mm handgun, which Canton, being a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing.
Canton’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday. As of Wednesday night, he remains in custody with bail set at $25,000.
