Hit-and-Run Driver Leaves Man Critically Injured in Las Vegas

A man is fighting for his life after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in Las Vegas.

Sleeping Man Struck in Makeshift Camp

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) reported that the incident occurred around 1:56 AM near South Sandhill Road and East Hawaii Avenue. Investigators determined that a 63-year-old man was sleeping inside a makeshift tent in a desert area on the east side of Sandhill Road when a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze LS veered off the road and struck him.

Bystanders Attempt to Apprehend Driver

According to police, the Chevrolet initially stopped at a business located north of the crash site. Witnesses confronted the driver and passenger, urging them to stay until police arrived. However, both occupants disregarded these pleas, fleeing the scene on foot after abandoning the vehicle nearby.

Critically Injured Victim Transported to Hospital

The critically injured man was transported to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit. As of now, he remains in critical condition.
