The North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) reported an officer-involved shooting that resulted in a 15-year-old boy being wounded early Wednesday morning. The teenager, who was wanted in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries, allegedly fired a gun at officers before being shot himself.
According to an official release, NLVPD officers were investigating a string of vehicle burglaries in the 5200 block of Styers Street around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Later, at approximately 2:55 a.m., police received a report of another vehicle break-in, this time on the 5100 block of Rocky Bluff Street. The vehicle’s owner provided a description of the suspect as a young male dressed in dark clothing.
Shortly after, at around 3:04 a.m., two officers encountered an individual matching the description in the 4300 block of Matinee Avenue. When the officers attempted to make contact, the suspect allegedly drew a handgun and fired at them, prompting one of the officers to return fire.
The suspect then fled on foot, leading to a brief chase during which another exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and both officers. The suspect was hit in the arm during the exchange and subsequently surrendered to the police.
The injured 15-year-old was taken into custody and received medical treatment for his wound. He is expected to face charges related to the vehicle burglaries and the confrontation with police. The incident is currently under investigation by the NLVPD.
