Man Arrested in Connection to Death of Reba the Bulldog, Justice Movement Reflects on Progress

Las Vegas police arrested a 32-year-old man on Saturday in connection with the tragic death of Reba, an English Bulldog found inside a sealed plastic tub in 110-degree heat last July.

The suspect, Issac Laushaul Jr., faces a felony charge of willful and malicious torture, maiming, or killing of an animal. Records indicate Laushaul refused to attend his Sunday court hearing, opting to remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.

Reba’s case gained widespread attention after she was discovered on July 26 in critical condition from heat stroke in a taped plastic tote near East Twain Avenue. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away two days later from sudden cardiac arrest caused by severe heat-related complications.

Justice for Reba Movement

The heartbreaking incident sparked the “Justice for Reba” movement, led by Vegas Pet Rescue Project. The organization, along with the public, raised a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Billboards, events, and social media campaigns ensured the case stayed in the spotlight.

“We put blood, sweat, and tears into this,” said Lindsey Pinapfel of Vegas Pet Rescue Project. “And I would do it all over again for any other animal.”

Pinapfel expressed hope that Reba’s story will inspire change and prevent similar acts of cruelty. “If this movement makes a difference in one person not hurting an animal, then we are doing something.”

Second Arrest Made

Authorities also arrested a co-defendant, Markeisha Foster, who faces the same felony charge. Foster was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday afternoon.

Surveillance footage previously released by investigators showed a man and a woman driving a white four-door sedan and abandoning the tote containing Reba.

The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the power of community advocacy in seeking justice.
