CCSD Picks Jhone Ebert as Superintendent—Can She Deliver Real Reform?
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 14, 2025 2:22 am
The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees has unanimously appointed Jhone Ebert as the new Superintendent of Schools. Ebert, who has spent years in the public education system, currently serves as Nevada’s Superintendent of Public Instruction and has been involved in education leadership roles for over three decades.
Board President Irene Bustamante Adams praised the decision, stating that CCSD looks forward to working with Ebert and the district’s 44,000 employees to improve student academic performance. But with Clark County’s education system consistently ranking near the bottom nationwide, many parents and teachers are asking: will Ebert bring real reform, or will this be more of the same bureaucratic shuffle?
Trustee Emily Stevens emphasized Ebert’s familiarity with the district and state laws, suggesting that experience will allow her to hit the ground running. Meanwhile, the Clark County Education Association (CCEA) expressed optimism, calling Ebert’s appointment a “positive new beginning” after what many considered a disappointing tenure under former Superintendent Jesus Jara.
Ebert has signaled that one of her top priorities is addressing staff shortages and student proficiency gaps in struggling schools. She plans to collaborate with local communities to ensure each school’s specific needs are met, though critics argue that without significant policy shifts, Nevada’s dismal education rankings won’t improve.
Ebert’s career began 35 years ago as a mathematics teacher within CCSD before moving into administrative roles in both Nevada and New York. In 2019, she was appointed as the state’s Superintendent of Public Instruction by former Governor Steve Sisolak and was later reappointed by Governor Joe Lombardo in 2023.
Now, CCSD must finalize contract negotiations with Ebert before her official start date. But as she steps into leadership, Nevadans will be watching closely to see if she can truly overhaul the system—or if this appointment is just more political manoeuvring.
Do you think Jhone Ebert can fix Nevada’s education crisis? Let us know in the comments.
