Wetlands Park Burns Again: Time to Address the Root Cause of These Fires
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, April 10, 2025 8:56 am
Clark County’s Wetlands Park experienced its second brush fire within a month, raising questions about public safety and resource management. On Tuesday evening, around 7:01 p.m., multiple calls reported a fire approximately 300 yards by 50 feet on the east side of the wash, burning north along the riverbank. The Clark County Fire Department responded promptly, halting the fire’s progress and working to extinguish remaining hot spots. The Bureau of Land Management also assisted with a wildland fire engine and UTV.
This incident follows a human-caused fire on March 31 that burned approximately 34 acres of the park. The frequency of these fires underscores the need for heightened vigilance and accountability. Are our public lands receiving the protection they deserve? It’s imperative for citizens to stay informed and engaged, ensuring that such vital areas are safeguarded against negligence and harm.
