9-Year-Old Boy Suffers Severe Injuries in Electric Scooter Accident

A 9-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a serious collision involving an electric scooter and an SUV in northwest Las Vegas on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 10:22 a.m. at the intersection of Cliff Shadows Parkway and Hickam Avenue, near the 215 Beltway and West Alexander Road. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the boy and an 11-year-old girl were riding a scooter eastbound on Hickam Avenue when they failed to stop at a posted stop sign. The scooter entered the path of a southbound 2023 Kia Sportage, resulting in a collision that ejected both children onto the roadway.
Emergency responders transported both juveniles to University Medical Center. The 9-year-old boy sustained life-threatening injuries, while the 11-year-old girl suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Kia, a 77-year-old Las Vegas woman, remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, according to police.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the incident.
