All Lights Back On: Las Vegas Emergency Shelter Shuts as Power Fully Restored

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, July 4, 2025 7:20 pm

Las Vegas Valley residents are breathing easier this morning as NV Energy crews have successfully restored power to every affected household following last Tuesday’s severe windstorm. At its peak, the storm cut electricity to over 30,000 customers, downed roughly 70 utility poles, and prompted the opening of an emergency shelter in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall for residents and their pets, as of 9 a.m. Friday, every household regained power, marking a massive recovery effort by 30 crews working around the clock. With just two remaining blurred blackouts earlier today, the final pockets were resolved, prompting Clark County to officially close the shelter and discontinue cooling centers as residents return home.

While most businesses have reopened and roadways cleared of debris, emergency planners warn that key corridors, such as East Tropicana Avenue, remain under repair, and traffic delays may linger. NV Energy urges anyone still without service to contact them directly—but given full restoration, each neighborhood should now be back in business.

This recovery illustrates Nevada’s resilience: the storm hit hard, but teamwork, preparation, and swift response turned a crisis into a restored community. Now it’s time to ask: are we investing enough in infrastructure reinforcement so next time, we stay online even before outages strike?
