Extreme Heat Warning in Las Vegas: Temps Could Reach 114 Degrees

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, August 12, 2025 12:13 pm

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Las Vegas area, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 114 degrees in some neighborhoods on Tuesday. The warning remains in effect for Southern Nevada until 8 p.m., with forecast highs ranging from 108 to 114 degrees in the valley, up to 116 degrees along the Colorado River, and as high as 122 degrees in Death Valley. A strong high-pressure system is contributing to the extreme temperatures.

Heat Advisories are also in place for local mountain areas, with highs on Mt. Charleston forecast between 82 and 88 degrees. Portions of Nye and Lincoln counties are expected to see highs ranging from 96 to 106 degrees. Across the region, both daytime highs and overnight lows will remain 4 to 8 degrees above normal.

In Las Vegas, Tuesday’s forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 111 degrees. Winds from the southeast are expected to reach up to 10 mph. Air quality is rated “good” in the morning but is projected to decline to “moderate” or “unhealthy for sensitive groups” in the afternoon due to ozone.

Clear skies are expected Tuesday night with valley lows around 87 degrees. Winds will shift to the southwest at 5 to 10 mph, which could bring wildfire smoke from California into parts of Clark County late at night and overnight.

Hot conditions will continue Wednesday with hazy sunshine. Monsoon moisture is expected to return later in the week, with the best chance for showers and thunderstorms in Southern Nevada on Friday. Rain chances could linger into Saturday in higher elevations, with valley temperatures cooling to the low 100s through the weekend. Drier conditions are anticipated by Sunday, with temperatures climbing again early next week.

Officials advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, wear light and loose clothing, and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Cooling centers across Clark County will remain open during daytime hours through Thursday, Aug. 14.
