Nevada Sends Partial SNAP Benefits Amid Federal Shutdown Impact

The Nevada Division of Social Services confirmed Wednesday that approximately $29 million in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds were distributed to more than 196,000 households across the state. This partial payment arrives after the federal government’s shutdown disrupted the normal benefits cycle.
Under new guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, eligible households with no income received about 50 % of their usual benefit, while others with some income received a smaller share or none at all. Around 14,000 households did not receive any benefit for November.
In response, food banks and community volunteers in the Las Vegas region have ramped up efforts to provide emergency assistance. With nearly one in six Nevadans relying on SNAP, the lapse has heightened resource strain. State lawmakers are expected to propose emergency state-funded aid during an upcoming special legislative session if federal support remains uncertain.
