A man is in custody after a fatal stabbing in west Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon, police said. Officers responded to multiple 911 calls around 12:30 p.m. reporting a man acting erratically and chasing people with a knife in the 1600 block of H Street near Owens Avenue.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Kenwonn Montgomery, first approached his mother’s home and struck the front door before swinging a knife at her. He then chased his brother down the street. When the suspect shifted his attention to an unrelated man walking nearby, police said he pursued and stabbed that individual multiple times.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, authorities reported. Montgomery’s brother disarmed him as officers arrived, and police took him into custody. The suspect received medical treatment for superficial wounds to his hands.
Montgomery is being held on charges including open murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He is expected to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court. Police said there is no known ongoing threat to the public and the investigation is in its early stages.
