Lombardo Orders Increased Security for Nevada’s Jewish Community

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo is moving quickly to strengthen protections for the state’s Jewish community, signaling that public safety and accountability remain core responsibilities of government in the face of rising antisemitic threats worldwide.
This week, Lombardo formally urged heightened coordination between state and local law enforcement, sending a letter to the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association calling for increased vigilance and preparedness. The governor emphasized the importance of visible police presence and proactive monitoring around synagogues, Jewish community centers, and schools, reinforcing the principle that deterrence and awareness matter when confronting targeted threats.
Lombardo also announced the formation of an antisemitism working group aimed at addressing what he described as a growing and serious challenge. The effort is intended to focus on coordination, information-sharing, and practical steps to safeguard communities, rather than symbolic gestures or political rhetoric.
Local law enforcement agencies have already begun responding. Earlier this week, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed plans to increase patrols around places of worship following a deadly antisemitic attack overseas. Leaders within Nevada’s Jewish community reported receiving outreach and offers of support from multiple agencies, including the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, underscoring the value of local partnerships and decisive action.
While some on the left often frame antisemitism as an abstract social issue, Lombardo’s approach treats it for what it is: a real security concern that demands serious enforcement and clear accountability. Protecting religious institutions is not a political statement. It is a basic function of government, rooted in defending freedom of worship and maintaining public order.
By prioritizing law enforcement readiness and interagency cooperation, Lombardo is reinforcing a message Nevadans expect from their leaders. Safety comes first. Threats are taken seriously. And communities targeted by hate will not be left to fend for themselves.
