Nevada National Guard members have been activated to assist with public safety operations during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Las Vegas, officials confirmed.
According to a spokesperson for the Nevada National Guard, soldiers and airmen have supported New Year’s Eve security efforts alongside local law enforcement for more than 25 years. This year, approximately 190 Guard members will be deployed to help with crowd control, triage support, and other safety-related duties.
Most of the Guard personnel will be paired with officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Visitors can expect to see soldiers stationed at major intersections along the Las Vegas Strip and in downtown areas throughout the holiday period, which runs from Wednesday through Thursday.
The Nevada Division of Emergency Management stated there is no specific threat to any event or location. Officials emphasized that the deployment is a precautionary measure intended to support large-scale celebrations and ensure public safety.
