MGM Resorts International announced a new milestone in its renewable energy efforts, saying solar power can now supply up to all daytime electricity needs at its resorts along the Las Vegas Strip. The company said the shift became possible following the completion of the Escape Solar and Storage Project in Lincoln County last month.
According to MGM, the Escape project provides 115 megawatts of solar energy and 400 megawatt hours of battery storage. When combined with the company’s existing 100 megawatt on site solar array, MGM said its total access to renewable energy has more than doubled.
In a statement, Bill Hornbuckle, president and chief executive officer of MGM Resorts, said the project moves the company closer to its goal of using 100 percent renewable electricity across its domestic operations by 2030. MGM officials said the company continues to expand renewable energy use as part of an effort to reduce operating costs and limit exposure to energy price fluctuations.
