An Oregon woman has filed a civil lawsuit against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, alleging she was sexually assaulted for several years by a high-ranking church leader while living in the Las Vegas Valley.

According to court documents, the woman claims the alleged abuse was carried out by a high priest assigned to a ward in the east Las Vegas area. The lawsuit states the assaults occurred repeatedly over a span of up to five years. The plaintiff alleges the misconduct took place during church-related interactions and that she was under the authority and influence of the accused at the time.

The suit names both the individual and the church, asserting claims that include negligence and failure to protect. The woman alleges church leadership knew or should have known about the alleged behavior and failed to take appropriate action to prevent harm.

The complaint seeks damages for emotional distress and long-term psychological harm. No criminal charges related to the allegations were announced in connection with the filing.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has previously stated in similar cases that it condemns abuse in any form and encourages victims to report allegations to law enforcement. It is unclear whether the church has formally responded to this specific lawsuit.

The case was filed in Nevada court and remains pending.
