An attorney for former NBA champion Lamar Odom entered a not guilty plea on his behalf Tuesday morning in a Las Vegas courtroom. Odom, who was not present for the hearing, faces charges of driving under the influence and speeding following an arrest by the Nevada Highway Patrol in January. According to police records, Odom was allegedly traveling at speeds exceeding 110 mph on Interstate 15 near Russell Road.
During the arrest, officers reported that the vehicle smelled of marijuana, and Odom failed multiple field sobriety tests. Defense attorney Kevin Coburn addressed the court, noting that the case is in its preliminary stages and the defense team is currently reviewing discovery evidence provided by prosecutors. Coburn also confirmed that Odom has successfully completed a rehabilitation program since the incident occurred.
The 46-year-old athlete has a long history in Las Vegas, having been a highly touted UNLV basketball recruit in 1997 before his 14 season professional career. This is not Odom’s first encounter with local authorities involving a vehicle, as he had a previous DUI arrest in 2013. The court will continue to process the current allegations as the legal teams move toward future hearings.
