Metro Investigates 5th OIS of 2026 Following Foot Pursuit Near West Harmon

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is processing the scene of its fifth officer-involved shooting of the year, following a pre-dawn confrontation on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

The Encounter

At approximately 3:23 AM on Saturday, an officer conducted a person stop near the intersection of West Harmon Avenue and Arville Street. According to Captain Adam Seely, the situation escalated when the individual became uncooperative while being directed to the patrol vehicle.

The Chase and Shooting

Authorities state the suspect began to walk away before pulling out a firearm.

  • The First Discharge: The officer opened fire, and the suspect fled on foot.

  • The Second Discharge: During a brief pursuit, the officer discharged their weapon again, striking the suspect.

  • The Arrest: The suspect was eventually apprehended in a nearby parking lot and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were harmed during the incident. Per department policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released within 48 hours.

Recap: 4th OIS Briefing Identifies Downtown Suspect

Friday’s media briefing, led by Assistant Sheriff Bryan Peterson, provided the first formal look at the April 21 shooting that led to a massive SWAT barricade in Downtown Las Vegas.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old George Barrios, allegedly pointed a handgun at officers on the fourth floor of an apartment complex in the 200 block of North 11th Street. While one officer fired, Barrios was not struck and retreated into a room for several hours before being apprehended by SWAT and a K9 unit. Barrios has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple felony counts.
