Another Democrat Fairy Tale: Dina Titus Says Obamacare Works While Taxpayers Fund the Bailouts

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, December 15, 2025 4:00 pm

Rep. Dina Titus insists Obamacare “works.” That’s her line. But Nevadans paying premiums, juggling deductibles, and watching Washington shovel billions more into the program know better. If a system truly works, it doesn’t require constant taxpayer-funded life support to stay upright.

According to reporting by Nevada News & Views, Titus is again defending the Affordable Care Act while backing yet another round of federal subsidies to prop it up. That’s the tell. After more than a decade, Obamacare still can’t stand on its own. Premiums remain high, choices are limited, and Washington’s answer is always the same: spend more of your money.

Let’s be clear about what these “subsidies” are. They’re not magic. They’re taxpayer dollars—taken from working families and small businesses used to mask the real costs of a bloated, overregulated system. The bill doesn’t disappear; it just gets rerouted to the national credit card. And every time Congress extends or expands these subsidies, it locks Americans deeper into a system that punishes competition and rewards bureaucracy.

Nevada families feel this acutely. In many counties, insurer options are thin. Deductibles are sky-high. Networks are narrow. Yet Democrats like Titus celebrate the program while quietly admitting through their votes, that it can’t survive without massive infusions of cash. That’s not success. That’s dependency.

The irony is rich. Democrats talk endlessly about “affordability,” but Obamacare’s structure drives costs up by design. Mandates, red tape, and one-size-fits-all rules squeeze insurers and providers, shrinking choice and hiking prices. When the predictable happens, Democrats blame everyone but the policy—and then demand more subsidies to paper over the damage.

Republicans have long argued for a different approach: lower costs through competition, expand choice, protect patients with pre-existing conditions, and let states innovate rather than bow to Washington dictates. That’s how you build a system that works, without perpetual bailouts.

If Obamacare really worked the way Dina Titus claims, Congress wouldn’t need to keep rescuing it with billions in taxpayer dollars. Nevadans deserve honesty, not talking points and a health care system that stands on its own without emptying their wallets to keep it afloat.
