Crime in Nevada Spikes – Can Ex-Sheriff Lombardo Clean It Up Before 2026?

Opinion: This is Part 4 of our 10-part series, “Lombardo’s Nevada Showdown: The Fight for 2026.”

The issue: Rising crime in Clark County, from car thefts to fentanyl flows, has Nevadans on edge, fueled by lax bail reforms from past sessions. Tension boils as Lombardo’s marquee crime bill died in the 2025 legislature’s final hours, per other media reports from June 2025, with Democrats accusing him of fearmongering while he points to soft-on-crime policies.

His approach: Boosting law enforcement pay and probing sanctuary state labels, as in his August 2025 National Guard deployment for border support, noted on the governor’s site. Credit him for prioritizing order without over-policing, drawing on his 26 years as sheriff, but for reelection, he needs to revive that crime bill in special sessions, outshining Ford’s prosecutorial record by emphasizing results over rhetoric. Enhance with community patrols to build trust.

Education’s the real battleground – read Part 5 to see if Lombardo’s school fixes are grading on a curve.
