FORD FLOPS ON GAS: Lombardo Office Torches Dem Gov Hopeful as Titus Record Drags Party Down

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 24, 2026 4:00 pm

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, now running for governor, tried to weigh in on gas prices this week with a social media post that quickly drew backlash.

Ford attempted to frame the issue around affordability and accountability. Within hours, Governor Joe Lombardo’s office fired back, dismantling Ford’s claims and pointing to the administration’s efforts to keep costs down for Nevada families.

Elizabeth Ray, speaking for Lombardo, did not mince words. She walked through the record, highlighting policy differences and accusing Ford of playing politics on an issue hitting working families every time they pull up to the pump.

Start there. A routine political exchange. But it did not stay routine.

Because gas prices in Nevada are not an abstract debate. They are a daily reality in a state where long commutes, tourism traffic, and supply constraints already stretch household budgets thin.

And Democrats have a record here. A long one.

While Ford tries to rebrand himself as a champion of affordability, Nevada voters remember who has been in power and what those policies have produced. High costs. Regulatory pressure. And a steady climb at the pump.

That is where Dina Titus comes back into the picture.

For decades, Titus has been tied to policies that critics say helped drive gas prices higher, a record that continues to haunt Nevada Democrats trying to pivot on cost-of-living issues.

“Only someone as wildly out of touch as Dina Titus could scoff at lower gas prices after spending 25 years voting to make them higher. Nevada families deserve relief, not a career politician who laughs off their pain,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez

That contrast is now bleeding directly into the governor’s race. Ford wants to talk about affordability. Lombardo’s team is pointing to results.

Ford wants to frame the debate. Republicans are tying him to a broader Democratic record that voters already associate with rising costs.

And voters are connecting the dots. Because this is not just about one tweet. It is about credibility.

Nevada has been trending in a direction that should worry Democrats. Margins tightening. Frustration rising. Working families more willing to split tickets if they believe one party is actually focused on lowering costs.

Gas prices are the perfect pressure point. They are visible. Immediate. Impossible to spin when the receipt is in your hand.

So, when Ford steps into that conversation, he is not starting from scratch. He is carrying the baggage of a party that voters increasingly blame for making life more expensive.

Lombardo’s team knows it. They are leaning in.

And if this exchange is any indication, Republicans are going to make sure every voter in Nevada remembers exactly who they think is responsible for the price on that sign. Momentum is building on the issue that hits closest to home, and Democrats are walking straight into it.
