Horsford Votes to Raise Taxes on Nevadans – Again

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, May 16, 2025 6:00 am

Congressman Steven Horsford has once again turned his back on working families across Nevada. In a stunning but unsurprising vote, Horsford sided with Washington Democrats to hike taxes and hammer middle-class Nevadans by voting against the House Ways and Means Committee markup which advances key tax portion of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”

“Instead of doing his job and putting Nevada taxpayers first, Steven Horsford voted to raise their taxes and increase their cost of living — all while living off the taxpayers’ dime himself. There is no excuse for Horsford’s costly, self-serving vote,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez.

The House Ways and Means Committee advanced the tax portion of reconciliation on a party line vote after a markup that took more than seventeen hours and will extend the first-term Trump tax cuts.

Horsford’s vote means he voted raise taxes on the average Nevada taxpayer by 22 percent, taking a bigger bite out of paychecks at a time when every dollar counts. It cuts the Child Tax Credit in half for 40 million American families, stripping vital relief from parents trying to provide for their children. It also imposes a massive tax increase on small businesses, threatening the livelihoods of local job creators across Nevada.

And this isn’t the first time. Raising taxes and leaving Nevadans behind has become a habit for Steven Horsford. Earlier this year, he voted again to raise taxes, doubling down on policies that make life more expensive for working families and small businesses.

Time and time again, Horsford has chosen party politics over Nevadans. Instead of standing up for taxpayers, he’s signed off on job-killing, tax-hiking, economy-stalling legislation. While he enjoys the perks of elected office, Nevadans are forced to make tough decisions at the gas pump and grocery store.

Horsford is voting to fund bloated Washington programs, while families in Clark County, Ely, and Pahrump foot the bill. Horsford had the chance to put Nevadans first, Nevada deserves better.
