Nevada Democrats Descend Into Primary Chaos as Far Left Targets Titus and Lee
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 4, 2026 6:00 am
Nevada Democrats are staring down another messy primary season.
Insurgent candidates are lining up to challenge longtime incumbents in the state’s congressional delegation, setting off early warning signs that the party’s internal civil war is about to spill into the open ahead of 2026.
At the center of the brewing fight are two familiar names. Dina Titus and Susie Lee.
Both Democrats now face the kind of restless activist energy that has already rocked the party in other states. Progressive organizers and outsider candidates are openly exploring runs that would push Nevada’s delegation even further to the left.
The playbook is simple. Pressure incumbents from the left. Accuse them of not going far enough. Turn primaries into ideological purity tests. Sound familiar. The push is modeled after the same activist strategy that has fueled insurgent campaigns across the country, where far left challengers attempt to topple establishment Democrats they view as insufficiently radical.
Now Nevada may be next.
Several potential challengers are already circling Titus and Lee, encouraged by activist groups eager to remake the Democratic Party in the image of its loudest progressive voices. That is bad news for Democrats trying to defend competitive seats in a state where voters have been drifting toward common sense politics on crime, the economy, and national security.
Instead of focusing on Nevada families dealing with rising costs and public safety concerns, Democrats appear ready to spend the next year tearing each other apart. And it is not a quiet disagreement.
Progressive activists want candidates who will embrace the full progressive wishlist. That means more spending, more government mandates, and the kind of ideological politics that have already alienated working class voters across the country.
The pressure campaign against Titus and Lee reflects a broader shift inside the Democratic Party. Moderates are no longer tolerated. Every seat is expected to fall in line with the activist base. Even long sitting incumbents are not safe. The irony is rich. Democrats spent years claiming Republicans were the party divided by primaries. Now the most competitive fights in Nevada are happening inside the Democratic Party itself.
For Republicans looking at the Silver State map, the trend is hard to miss. The more Democrats move left, the more out of step they become with everyday Nevadans. Families worried about gas prices, grocery bills, and safe neighborhoods are not demanding ideological crusades in Washington. They want stability and leadership.
Instead, Nevada Democrats appear headed for a year of internal warfare. Primary challengers sharpening their knives. Activists demanding loyalty tests. Incumbents scrambling to fend off attacks from their own party.
And while Democrats battle each other, the political landscape in Nevada keeps shifting. Which means the biggest winners from the coming primary chaos may not be inside the Democratic Party at all.
