Nevada Democrats Hold Families Hostage in Partisan Shutdown Stunt

Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford have once again chosen partisan loyalty over Nevada’s working families. With their reckless votes to shut down the government, they’ve jeopardized everything from veterans’ services to small business financing all to score political points in Washington.

For years, each of these members has promised to put Nevada first. But when push came to shove, they sided with their party bosses and turned their backs on the people they represent. The consequences for Nevada families are real, immediate, and dangerous.

At the heart of this shutdown showdown are the men and women who keep Nevada safe. Law enforcement officers, members of the military, and TSA screeners may be forced to work without pay, creating unnecessary stress for families who already sacrifice so much. Asking these essential personnel to shoulder the burden of Washington dysfunction is more than unfair it’s a direct threat to public safety.

The numbers tell the story. Nevada is home to more than 134,000 veterans who rely on critical federal programs, including employment assistance. A government shutdown disrupts these programs, leaving veterans in limbo and undermining the promises made to them for their service. Titus, Lee, and Horsford like to talk about supporting veterans, but their votes say otherwise.

Across Nevada’s three Democrat-held districts, more than 29,000 federal workers could soon find themselves working without pay. These are not faceless bureaucrats, they are neighbors, friends, and family members who keep everything from Hoover Dam operations to national security functions running. Stripping them of paychecks while prices remain sky-high is a cruel blow that exposes just how little regard these Democrats have for Nevada families.

Nevada’s 353,621 small businesses form the backbone of the state’s economy. Yet their access to loan financing is now in jeopardy thanks to the shutdown vote. From new restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip to family-owned shops in Henderson and Reno, entrepreneurs are left twisting in the wind.

And it’s not just business owners. Nevada’s 1,065 farmers could lose access to disaster relief and financial assistance, critical tools for surviving droughts, wildfires, and other challenges. Instead of supporting them, Titus, Lee, and Horsford abandoned them.

Perhaps most shameful of all, this shutdown threatens funding for the Head Start program that serves 585 Nevada children. For many families, Head Start provides the only affordable path to early education. Slashing its funding means parents could lose childcare and children could lose opportunities, collateral damage from Washington Democrats’ political games.

Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford had a choice: stand with Nevada families or stand with their party bosses. They chose the latter.

“Instead of standing for Nevadans, out of touch Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford voted to bring the government to a grinding halt, holding Nevadans hostage. Nevadans won’t forgive this betrayal,” said NRCC spokesman Christian Martinez. The message is clear: partisan stunts have consequences. And Nevada families deserve leaders who put them first, not last.
