Chair of the Nevada Democratic Party, Judith Whitmer, suffered another blow this week. After Democratic State leaders called for her resignation, the powerful Nevada AFL-CIO which represents 120 unions comprised of 150,000 members, announced they are supporting Chairwoman of the Ways and Means Committee, Assemblyman Daniele Monroe-Moreno (AD-1) to lead the state Democratic party.
However, their announcement, issued by Executive Secretary-Treasurer Susie Martinez, took direct aim at Whitmer referring to her “lackluster leadership” and her refusal “to express its appreciation for the labor movement.” Martinez continued, “we will no longer deal with the incompetence and ignorance, and that’s why the current leadership must step back…we require that our members and their issues are no longer pushed to the side due to ineptitude by our leaders.”
As reported by The Globe, this announcement comes on the heals of Democratic Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizaaro and Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager calling for Judith Whitmer’s resignation, citing the controversy surrounding the purge of over 200 Democratic committee members, which included Yeager and Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom.
The Globe contacted Nevada Democratic Party Communications Director Gordon Brown for comment. When received, we will update the article to include his statement.
