TAX ATTACK: NRCC Drops New Dina Titus Ad as Nevada Early Voting Gets Underway

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, October 20, 2026 6:00 am

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The National Republican Congressional Committee is hitting Rep. Dina Titus with a new paid digital advertising campaign centered on taxes and gasoline prices as Nevada voters begin casting ballots in the 2026 midterms.

The NRCC launched the spot targeting the longtime Nevada Democrat on October 17, the opening day of Nevada’s in-person early voting period. Early voting runs through October 30 ahead of Election Day on November 3.

The ad wastes little time setting its theme.

“Dina Titus loves taxes. She never met a tax she didn’t like,” the narrator declares before cutting to a clip of Titus saying: “Well, you’ve got to, uh, raise the gas tax.”

The spot then accuses Titus of pushing higher gasoline taxes and opposing Republican tax legislation containing provisions for tipped income, overtime pay and Social Security benefits.

“Titus pushed higher gas taxes,” the narrator says. “Then she even supported taxing your tips, overtime, and Social Security.”

The NRCC also claims the tax policies it associates with Titus would cost Nevada taxpayers more than $4,000 annually. That figure and the characterization that Titus “supported taxing” those forms of income are Republican campaign arguments tied to her opposition to GOP tax legislation, rather than references to a standalone Titus bill imposing those taxes.

The gas-tax attack, however, has become increasingly central to the Republican campaign against Titus. Video of the congresswoman saying, “You’ve got to raise the gas tax,” has already appeared in Republican messaging and advertising this fall. The Nevada Globe previously reported on Republican Carrie Buck using the same clip in her own television campaign.

The new NRCC spot closes with a play on the incumbent’s name: “Dina Titus. Dina taxes us.”

The committee is pairing the ad with one of its harshest attacks yet on the congresswoman.

“Dina ‘Taxes’ has never met a Nevadan’s paycheck she didn’t want to bleed dry,” NRCC spokesman Christian Martinez said. “This lifelong, out of touch political parasite has spent decades in Carson City and Washington treating hardworking families like her personal ATM. Nevadans will finally drag this tax-hungry relic out of office and put an end to her free ride for good.”

The digital buy arrives as Nevada’s 1st Congressional District race enters its closing stretch and Republicans increasingly focus their messaging on affordability, taxes and Titus’ lengthy record in public office.

Titus has defended her own tax record by pointing to previous support for temporary federal gas-tax relief and has argued that Republican tax legislation disproportionately benefits wealthy Americans. Republicans counter that her past support for increasing gasoline taxes and her votes against Trump-backed tax legislation tell a different story.

With voting already underway, Republicans are betting one line in particular will stick with Southern Nevada voters every time they pull into a gas station:

“You’ve got to raise the gas tax.”
