Titus Honored Chavez Then Went Silent as Abuse Allegations Surface

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 21, 2026 4:48 pm

Nevada Democrat Dina Titus helped lead legislation to establish Cesar Chavez Day, celebrating the legacy of the labor activist long revered on the left.

Now, that legacy is under intense scrutiny.

A recent investigation detailed allegations that Chavez groomed and sexually abused young girls who worked within his orbit, raising serious questions about how he is remembered and honored.

The report has sent shockwaves through political circles, forcing a reckoning over a figure many Democrats have elevated for decades.

But Titus has said nothing.

No statement. No condemnation. No apology for championing a federal holiday tied to a man now facing deeply disturbing accusations.

The silence is deafening.

Titus has built a career aligning herself with progressive causes and cultural icons. In this case, she helped push to elevate Chavez’s legacy onto the national stage. Now that troubling allegations have surfaced, she has refused to address them.

That refusal is drawing sharp criticism as more details emerge and pressure builds for public officials to respond.

“Out of touch Democrat Dina Titus won’t stand for Nevadans but will stand for a child sex abuser. Titus continues to prove she can’t be trusted,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez.

The controversy lands at a time when voters are already questioning the judgment of long serving politicians who seem more focused on symbolism than accountability.

In Nevada, where trust in elected officials is increasingly fragile, moments like this cut deeper.

Voters expect clarity. They expect leadership. They expect a willingness to speak plainly when serious allegations come to light.

Instead, they are getting silence. And in politics, silence is rarely neutral.
