BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS: Titus, Lee, Horsford Under Fire After Sanctuary Policies Linked to Loyola Student Murder

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 24, 2026 6:00 am

More than a month into Democrats’ DHS shutdown, a brutal crime out of Chicago is forcing a reckoning.
An 18-year-old Loyola University student, Sheridan Gorman, was shot and killed while walking with friends near campus. Police say the suspect is a 25-year-old Venezuelan national in the country illegally who had previously been apprehended and released.
Federal officials confirm the suspect entered the United States in 2023, was released, later arrested for shoplifting, and still remained free despite an outstanding warrant.
Now he is charged with murder.
This was not some bureaucratic paperwork error buried in a filing cabinet. This was a chain of decisions. A sequence. A pattern. Release. Ignore. Fail to appear. Release again. And then a young woman is dead.
The political fallout is immediate and unavoidable. Federal authorities have already pointed directly at sanctuary-style policies that restrict cooperation with immigration enforcement, warning those rules helped allow the suspect to remain on the street.
That is where this stops being abstract.
Because the same ideological framework underpinning those policies is exactly what Democrats like Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford continue to defend while Washington sits frozen in a self-inflicted DHS shutdown.
They had a vote. They had leverage. They chose paralysis. And while they posture, the system they protect keeps producing the same outcome. Preventable crimes. Repeat offenders. Zero accountability.
Nevada voters are not watching this in a vacuum.
They are watching from a state that has shifted hard in recent cycles. A state where working families are already fed up with rising costs, rising crime concerns, and politicians who seem more interested in signaling than solving.
This story cuts straight through the noise. It is not about process. It is not about talking points. It is about consequences.
“Dina Titus, Susie Lee, Steven Horsford, and national Democrats can’t keep pushing dangerous policies and pretending there are no consequences. Their sanctuary city agenda put a violent criminal back on the street, and innocent Americans are still paying the price,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez.
That line is going to stick, because the facts underneath it are not going away. An illegal immigrant was encountered, released, arrested again, missed court, and remained free. An 18-year-old is gone. And Democrats are still digging in.

In Nevada, that contrast is only getting sharper. Republicans are nationalizing safety, security, and accountability. Democrats are stuck defending a system voters increasingly do not trust. Momentum is not subtle right now. It is building.
