Embattled Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel is facing a strong rebuke from Nevada’s RNC National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah. Chattah, an outspoken critic of establishment Republicans and consultants, has filed a Resolution for Fiscal Responsibility (see below) prior to the RNC Winter Meeting held in Las Vegas this week. The resolution will be presented to Chairwoman McDaniel and RNC members for a vote on February 1st, prior to the Nevada GOP’s “First In The West” caucus on February 8th.
The resolution cites the RNC’s $3 million dollar debt, lackluster fundraising, and charges that the RNC is violating their policies with excessive spending on non-essential items including first-class air travel, luxury hotels and transportation, and alcohol. The resolution further calls to reign in “above market” salaries of key RNC staffers and introduces a cap of $10,000 per month for related salaries.
“If minimal cost cutting measures were applied to the highest paid staff which are in charge of key initiatives at the RNC which have not been achieved, the RNC stands to save over $250,000.00 per year…It is undeniable that performance across the 2023 – 2024 cycle by current RNC leadership has resulted in sub-optimal performance against fundraising goals and has excessive employee spending on non-essential items,” the resolution notes.
Rumors are also swirling that Chairwoman McDaniel may announce her resignation during their Winter Meeting. Chattah replied that her resignation “should be seen as the greatest Grass Roots victory in history.” Chairwoman McDaniel was reelected to a fourth term during a secret ballot during the RNC Winter Meeting last year, defeating challengers Harmeet Dhillon, a California attorney, and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell.
McDaniel has faced increasing criticism and calls for her resignation after Republican losses during the 2022 midterms, the 2023 elections in Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky, and subsequent reports of her lavish spending habits. After a review of FEC records, McDaniel was accused of using donor funds as her “personal piggy bank” after spending $500,000 on rent for a luxury apartment in Washington D.C. and $75,000 on “media preparation” for hair, makeup, and nail services.
Chattah told The Globe that she was not calling for Chairwoman McDaniel’s resignation, she was simply “calling for accountability and transparency at the RNC” by filing the resolution.
