LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has confirmed the identity and details of a fatal early-morning crash that occurred on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the intersection of East Cheyenne Avenue and Lincoln Road. The incident marks the 44th traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
The Collision Details
The accident unfolded at approximately 6:29 AM as the valley’s morning commute was beginning:
-
The Vehicles: A 2020 Freightliner propane truck and a 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS motorcycle.
-
The Impact: Evidence at the scene indicates the propane truck was stopped at a posted stop sign on Lincoln Road before attempting a left turn onto eastbound Cheyenne Avenue. As the truck entered the intersection, the eastbound motorcycle struck the left side of the vehicle.
-
The Victim: Emergency medical personnel determined the rider, a 38-year-old Las Vegas man, was beyond resuscitation; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Road Safety
The driver of the Freightliner, identified as a 48-year-old male, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police confirmed that impairment was not a factor for the truck driver.
This latest tragedy comes amid a period of intense scrutiny for valley road safety. While overall statewide traffic fatalities reportedly fell by nearly 25% in the first four months of 2026 compared to last year, motorcycle-related deaths remain a significant concern for local authorities.
The intersection remained closed for several hours on Tuesday while the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section processed the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
