High-Speed Overcorrection on the Southern Bypass
According to the preliminary incident report compiled by Highway Patrol crash reconstruction investigators, Andrews was traveling southbound on Interstate 11 approaching the open expanse south of the Boulder City interchange.
For reasons still under technical review, the driver overcorrected the steering wheel, causing the compact Pontiac to lose lateral stability.
The vehicle violently swerved across the paved right shoulder and plowed into the unimproved desert median.
After striking several large desert shrubs and rock outcroppings, the Sunfire tripped into a series of end-over-end and barrel rolls.
Investigators noted that Andrews was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The violent centrifugal force of the rollover ejected him from the cabin onto the desert hardpack.
Troopers and Boulder City Fire Department emergency crews cordoned off the southbound right travel lane for several hours to conduct laser-guided scene mapping and tire-friction analysis.
Seatbelt Non-Compliance and Nevada Zero Fatalities
The fatal crash marks the 52nd deadly crash and 57th death investigated by the Highway Patrol’s Southern Command in 2026 alone.

State traffic safety officials highlighted that occupant ejection remains the leading factor in preventable rural highway fatalities across Nevada.
Through the state’s Zero Fatalities initiative, law enforcement agencies are reinforcing public awareness campaigns targeting basic restraint compliance and defensive driving techniques to avoid overcorrection when tires slip onto unpaved shoulders.
The Nevada State Police confirmed that toxicological evaluations will be conducted by the Clark County Coroner’s Office as the comprehensive fatal collision dossier is finalized.
