Clark County School District Bus Drivers Anxious About Modified Summer Schedules

Clark County School District (CCSD) bus drivers are expressing concerns about a potential change to their usual summer work schedules. The modification has caused frustration among drivers who say they were not given adequate notice to adjust their plans.

On Monday, bus drivers and aides gathered at the local Teamsters 14 headquarters to voice their anxieties. Drivers claim the district did not provide sufficient warning before announcing the altered schedule.

“Many bus drivers are extremely frustrated,” an anonymous driver told FOX5. “We weren’t given a heads-up, which could have allowed us to adjust our finances. We have families to support.”

According to the drivers, their contracts stipulate full-time work during the summer months. However, the proposed changes would reduce their schedules to three or four days a week.

“Without the drivers, the teachers wouldn’t be able to perform their jobs in the classroom,” the driver added. “And without the bus aides, the drivers wouldn’t be able to do their jobs either.”

The Clark County School District maintains that the previous summer schedules were a response to a surge in summer school enrollment following the COVID-19 pandemic. With enrollment returning to normal levels, the district has decided to cancel all summer bus services on the last day of school. Bus drivers are still expected to return to work on July 29th.
