LAS VEGAS, NV — The Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) has confirmed the death of an inmate who passed away last week after being transported from High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs to a medical facility in the northwest Las Vegas valley.
The inmate, identified as 35-year-old Daniel Christopher, was pronounced deceased on April 7, 2026, at Centennial Hills Hospital. While the death occurred earlier this month, officials only recently finalized and released the details of his incarceration status and pending investigation.
Lengthy Sentence Cut Short
Christopher had been incarcerated within the state system since May 2024, following his transfer from Clark County. He was serving a sentence of 120 to 300 months (10 to 25 years) for a string of violent and drug-related offenses, including:
-
Second-Degree Murder
-
Trafficking a Controlled Substance
-
Carrying a Concealed Weapon
Investigation Underway
As is standard protocol for all deaths occurring under state supervision, an autopsy has been requested to determine the exact cause and manner of death. The Clark County Coroner’s Office is leading the medical investigation.
While the NDOC has not released preliminary findings regarding Christopher’s health or the circumstances leading to his hospitalization, the incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of medical protocols at High Desert State Prison, a maximum-security facility located approximately 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
Further details regarding the autopsy results are expected to be released by the coroner in the coming weeks.
