Chaos at Peak Festival Hours

The First Friday festival regularly draws thousands of locals, art patrons, and tourists to the 18b district for outdoor vendor displays, live music, and street food.

According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police logs, a physical confrontation erupted between groups of young people near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Main Street as crowds were beginning to disperse toward festival parking lots and transit hubs.

During the brawl, at least one individual pulled out a firearm and fired multiple rounds in rapid succession.

Metro officers assigned to proactive foot patrols throughout the Arts District heard the gunshots and converged on the intersection within seconds, encountering three victims lying on the sidewalk suffering from bullet wounds.

Clark County and City of Las Vegas Fire Department rescue units deployed immediately, treating the wounded on scene before rushing all three to the University Medical Center (UMC) Trauma Center.

Doctors pronounced one teenage victim deceased shortly after arrival. The other two victims, also reported to be in their late teens, are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Perimeter Established and Youth Detained

Officers secured the block, establishing a wide crime scene perimeter that completely shut down all lanes of Charleston Boulevard between Art Way and Grand Central Parkway.
