Doctors Urge Americans To Get Updated COVID Vaccine
Following the Thanksgiving holiday, which resulted in an increase in cases of COVID, flu, and other respiratory ailments, hospitals around the country are filling up.
The White House and health officials are working hard to ensure that this does not happen again after Christmas.
First Lady Jill Biden and U.S. health authorities have issued a message that they believe will guarantee Americans have the greatest and healthiest holiday season possible.
“Getting your updated COVID vaccine is the most critical thing you can do to prepare for the holidays,” the first lady stated.
White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci says it’s crucial for at-risk groups to acquire the latest covid vaccinations, encouraging them to “get it now, don’t waste any time.”
The counselor also recommends that everyone, particularly children, get their vaccines on time.
“There are over 2,000 children who have died, 20,000 who have been hospitalized, and then there is lengthy COVID,” Fauci said.
According to Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House COVID Response Coordinator, having only previous versions of the vaccine isn’t enough at this time in the pandemic.
“The virus out there now is extremely different, which is why we need an updated vaccine because it targets the virus that’s out there,” Jha stated. “The second concern is that protection can diminish over time.”
The panel also fielded questions from AARP members during a virtual event on Friday, including one who wondered, “Will COVID ever go away?”
“We can carry on with our lives, we can do what is important to us if we do certain things,” Jha responded, “and that stays up on the immunization, get treated if you have an infection.”
According to health officials, COVID vaccines will most likely be required on a yearly basis.
