Flood Watch Issued for Las Vegas as Christmas Eve Storm Brings Heavy Rain

Wet weather settled over Southern Nevada on Christmas Eve, prompting a flood watch for Las Vegas and surrounding areas as forecasters warned of potentially hazardous conditions.
The National Weather Service issued the flood watch on Wednesday, citing expectations of moderate to heavy rainfall across the Las Vegas Valley and other parts of Southern Nevada. Officials cautioned that excessive rainfall could lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and areas prone to poor drainage.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly motorists, and to avoid driving through flooded roadways. Safety officials noted that as little as six inches of moving water can knock a person off their feet, while one foot of water can be enough to carry away a vehicle.
NV Energy also released a statement confirming that crews are on standby statewide to respond to weather-related issues. The utility warned, however, that power outages could take longer than usual to resolve if severe conditions develop.
The flood watch remains in effect as weather conditions continue to be monitored, and residents are encouraged to stay informed through official forecasts and emergency alerts.
