Harry Reid International Airport Breaks Ground on New $40M Airfield Fire Station 13

LAS VEGAS, NV — Critical emergency response infrastructure at Harry Reid International Airport is set for a major upgrade as airport administrators and county leaders break ground on a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) facility on the airfield.
The development, designated as Clark County Fire Station 13, will replace aging legacy support bays with a modern emergency hub designed to service the airport’s commercial runways and taxiway corridors.
The facility is engineered to house heavy-duty ARFF apparatus, including multi-thousand-gallon water crash tenders, specialized chemical foam crash trucks, and advanced command units capable of reaching any point on the airfield within FAA-mandated response windows.

Modernizing Airfield Emergency Operations
As Harry Reid International Airport handles record passenger volumes connecting to the Las Vegas Strip, maintaining immediate crisis response capabilities across its four commercial runways has become an operational priority.
Station 13 is strategically situated to minimize response times to Runway 1L/19R and Runway 8L/26R, allowing Clark County Fire Department crews to respond to in-flight emergencies, landing gear failures, and fuel containment scenarios within three minutes of alarm dispatch.
The new station will include decontamination suites, high-volume water refill bays, crew living quarters, and direct telemetry links into the airport’s primary Air Traffic Control tower.
“With air traffic expanding alongside major international events, having top-tier emergency and fire support on the taxiways ensures our operations remain safe and resilient,” aviation officials noted.
Construction Timeline and Operational Phasing
Site grading and utility preparation on the airfield taxiway perimeter are scheduled to begin immediately following the formal groundbreaking ceremonies.
