Horowitz Family Gifts Record $150 Million to Anchor $1 Billion Children’s Hospital in Southwest Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV — In the largest single philanthropic healthcare donation in Nevada history, tech entrepreneur Ben Horowitz and his wife, Felicia, have committed $150 million to anchor a planned $1 billion freestanding children’s hospital in southwest Las Vegas, Intermountain Health and local officials announced Friday afternoon.

The transformative gift formally designates the upcoming facility as the Intermountain Health Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children’s Hospital.

The state-of-the-art campus is slated to break ground in southwest Clark County, with its central inpatient tower scheduled to open to patients by 2030.

The facility addresses one of Nevada’s most critical medical voids: Southern Nevada has long remained the largest metropolitan area in the United States without a standalone, comprehensive tertiary children’s hospital, forcing thousands of families annually to fly out of state to Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, or the Bay Area for specialized surgeries, oncology treatments, and pediatric intensive care.

From Personal Family Experience to Historic Nevada Investment

At a ceremony announcing the donation, Felicia Horowitz recounted the emotional impetus behind the gift.

Three decades ago, when the couple’s child received lifesaving medical intervention at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Northern California, she observed the benefactor’s name on the hospital corridors and vowed that if they ever achieved substantial financial capability, they would build a comparable sanctuary of healing for other parents.

Ben Horowitz—co-founder of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz—and Felicia have increasingly established civic and philanthropic footprints in Nevada, investing heavily in community uplift and healthcare parity.

“They are truly the heartbeat of the state,” Felicia Horowitz said, asking the gathered crowd to rise and applaud Southern Nevada’s healthcare professionals.

Intermountain Health’s Chief Development Officer David Flood highlighted the emotional and structural weight of the initiative: “We are not just building a hospital. We are standing on sacred ground. It will be sacred for the families receiving care.”

Economic Impact and Inpatient Capabilities

The project will serve as a hub for regional pediatric research, specialized subspecialties, and surgical suites.

Intermountain Health projects the hospital will generate approximately 1,300 permanent high-wage healthcare positions—including pediatric intensivists, specialized surgeons, and nurse specialists—while yielding roughly $800 million per year in economic activity across Clark County.

Architectural planning and municipal permitting through Clark County are ongoing, with site groundbreaking preparations scheduled to advance over the next year.
