LAS VEGAS – Henderson Police Department is investigating the death of Ronald Winborne, 53, who died while in police custody on March 27, 2023, at Sunrise Hospital. The Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled his death as a homicide due to the use of force during his initial arrest.
According to the police report, officers were called to Greenway Rd. and Horizon Dr. on March 21, where Winborne was swinging a knife at passing vehicles. He pointed the knife at an officer, and was subsequently tased and taken into custody. After receiving medical treatment from the Henderson Fire Department, he was taken to Henderson Detention Center to be booked on charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
Medical staff at the detention center later requested that Winborne be evaluated at a hospital, and he was taken to St. Rose DeLima Hospital, where he was subsequently discharged and returned to custody. Winborne’s health declined on March 27 while still in custody, and he was taken back to the hospital for further evaluation, where he died later that day.
This is the third homicide being investigated by the Henderson Police Department in 2023. The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released at this time. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Henderson Police Department or Crime Stoppers to provide tips anonymously.
