LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports that on Tuesday, August 29, a 72-year-old man was killed in the northwest valley in a hit-and-run accident involving a moped.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. that morning, Las Vegas police responded to a collision on Vegas Drive east of Burningwood Lane. The collision involved a vehicle and a moped, resulting in the death of the moped’s operator.
Reports indicate that the 72-year-old man was riding his moped east on Vegas Drive while a 2014 Kia Rio was traveling in the opposite direction, heading west.
The driver of the Kia reportedly attempted to turn left into a private drive but failed to yield to the moped, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles. The impact caused the moped operator to be ejected from his vehicle.
The Kia driver ran away from the scene of the accident, abandoning the moped rider, who was hurt.
The injured moped operator was rushed to a local hospital, where he managed to provide crucial information to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department about the hit-and-run incident.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the moped operator’s injuries proved fatal, and he tragically passed away later in the day. Hospital staff pronounced him death.
The case is now under thorough investigation by the LVMPD collision investigation section as law enforcement authorities work to determine the circumstances leading up to the hit-and-run and locate the responsible driver.
