Illegal Immigrant Serial Rapist May Have 17 Victims—System Let Him Back Into U.S. 8 Times

Las Vegas is once again at the center of a story that exposes the failure of weak border enforcement and misplaced political priorities. Carlos Nava, a 49-year-old illegal immigrant accused of being a serial rapist, was expected to face sentencing this week after entering an Alford plea. Instead, he abruptly withdrew that plea, forcing prosecutors to reinstate multiple charges.

Prosecutors say Nava may have as many as 17 victims, including minors, with DNA evidence directly tying him to assaults dating back years. Police reports describe horrifying details: women held at knifepoint, beaten, and assaulted, some fleeing naked into public places to survive. Investigators say Nava even kept “trophies” from his attacks—pairs of women’s underwear found in his possession.

What makes this case even more infuriating is that Nava should never have been here. Immigration officials confirmed that he re-entered the United States illegally at least eight times since 2002. Despite being repeatedly deported, he slipped back in, moving through states like California, Arizona, and Nevada until police finally linked him to a series of violent crimes. This is what happens when the system fails: violent offenders walk free, while innocent women pay the price.

Nava’s history is not just about violence; it’s about political negligence. Leaders who look the other way on illegal immigration bear responsibility for creating conditions where predators like this can continue to target the most vulnerable. Victims deserve justice, yet the process drags on because of a criminal justice system tied in knots over political correctness and endless appeals.

One victim came to court prepared to read a statement, but Nava’s withdrawal of his plea meant she was silenced once again. How many more voices must be ignored before Nevada and the nation take border security and violent crime seriously?

The trial date is expected to be scheduled after Nava’s next hearing on October 9. Until then, the victims wait—and Nevadans are reminded of the real, human cost of an unsecured border.
